Sonata K. 36. Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) By Valérie Duchâteau. Contemporary of Bach and Handel, Scarlatti is a prolific composer who owes his fame to his work for harpsichord, totaling 555 sonatas. In A minor, in binary form, this sonata follows a traditional development with two parts in different keys. On the other hand, their endings are identical, the first being in the relative major key (C major) and the second in the principal key (A minor). On the guitar, this sonata concentrates several difficulties, the first being undoubtedly the speed of execution. Everything is there: scales, drums and arpeggios. We will focus on some left hand extensions, notably in measures 9-11, where it is appropriate to hold the A while ensuring the continuity of the melodic line in thirds. Finally, one last piece of advice: when playing arpeggios, don't hesitate to take a look at the right hand fingering suggestion.
