Intermediate-Waltz No. 1 called “Paquito” (extract) by Francisco Tarrega (1852-1909) By Valérie Duchateau. Considered "the father of modern classical guitar", Francisco Tárrega was one of the most influential Spanish guitarists and composers on the 6-string. An outstanding teacher, his students included the brilliant Emilio Pujol and Miguel Llobet. His work, although relatively modest, includes around 80 original pieces, including some gems of the repertoire such as the Recuerdos de la Alhambra and the Capricho Arabo. Although much less well-known, this pretty waltz called "Paquito" is no less interesting. It is perfectly imbued with the "Tárrega" style, with a lyricism and delicacy reminiscent of a certain Frédéric Chopin. As in all waltzes, accentuate the first beat of each measure. Apart from rare poco ritenuto, the indications are almost non-existent. Also, listen to our audio CD which will give you some interpretation ideas. Finally, remember that the Quebec publisher Les Productions d'Oz has published an essential complete set of Tárrega's guitar works at a bargain price
