Gnossienne no 1-Erik Satie (1866-1925) By Valérie Duchâteau – After studying at the Paris Conservatory in his youth, Erik Satie, an already accomplished musician, went to perfect his knowledge of counterpoint and orchestration at the Schola Cantorum with Vincent d'Indy and Albert Roussel… at the age of 40! The Gnossiennes – a word invented by the French composer – are six in number and were composed between 1890 and 1897. Originally, Erik Satie had written Gnossienne no 1 without a bar line. For a better understanding of the text, we offer you a version written in 4/4.
