" Allemande ", BWV 1004 p. 62 Johann Sebastian Bach (1675-1750) By Valérie Duchâteau – www.valerieduchateau.com In five movements, Johann Sebastian Bach's Partita for violin no. 2, BWV 1004, in D minor, follows an ordered pattern according to the following alternation: slow, lively, slow, lively, slow. This allemande occupies the first position of the suite. Although the writing is monodic, this piece is inhabited by a hidden polyphony and should therefore not be approached as an exercise in style or dexterity, as the continuous sequence of eighth notes might falsely suggest. For the more advanced, this allemande is an excellent sight-reading exercise!
