Danza mora-Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909) By Valérie Duchâteau. Do we still need to introduce Francisco Tárrega, so essential was his contribution to the repertoire and the evolution of the instrument for the rise of the guitar in the 20th century? Along with the Recuerdos de la Alhambra and the Capricho árabe, the Danza mora is one of his most beautiful pages. It is said that it was composed during a visit to Algiers, after the composer heard a repetitive rhythm played on the tambourine. It is precisely this ostinato on the note B that we hear from measure 13, and which migrates to the note E in measure 27… Technically, some extensions are very perilous (measures 15-16), especially since the ties that follow complicate the task and will unfortunately not be achievable for all hands. In the same vein, measures 51-56 may discourage more than one person because they require a good dose of training and patience as the muscles of the left hand are solicited.
