Prelude No. 1, BWV 846_Excerpt from “The Well-Tempered Clavier” Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) By Valérie Duchâteau - The “Well-Tempered Clavier” brings together a cycle of 24 preludes and fugues written in each of the semitones of the chromatic scale, in major and minor modes. Today, this collection in two notebooks (composed in 1722 and 1744 respectively) occupies a prominent place in the history of music. In addition, it had a considerable influence on the young Mozart and Haydn. Prelude No. 1, BWV 846, is built on a succession of sixteenth notes where each measure is repeated, as indicated by the “%” symbol on the magazine score. In the left hand, think of this piece as a succession of chords. We recommend that you first work on the "imprint" of the chords on the neck before adding the left hand. Some difficult extensions should be noted, particularly in measures 17, 31, 65, etc. This transcription was made by Valérie Duchâteau.
